ANPA - PLAYING FOR PLEASURE

Sunday 30 May 2021, 2.00pm. Enjoy wonderful music on a magnificent Steinway piano! Each year, on a Sunday afternoon, local music enthusiasts come together to perform on the Eastbank stage. Playing for Pleasure gives local pianists the opportunity to play great classical works, on the Steinway piano. Artists include students, teachers, professional academics and anyone who plays piano, with a minimum standard of AMEB 5th grade. It provides the municipality with wonderful live music, all for the cost of a gold coin donation. The concerts came to life when Riverlinks and Greater Shepparton City Council purchased the magnificent grand piano. Playing for Pleasure was created to involve the local community and create casual concerts for Shepparton audiences and artists to gain confidence and perfect their talent. Entry is by gold coin donation. Bookings required.

Using humour and truth, Jessie shares the voices of elders as they would around a warm campfire or kitchen table. After being rejected by the shearers and their dogs, Shaun and Pete set up their own Shearing Salon in town and before long word is out and they are inundated with woolly clients and maybe a Ringer or two! This hilarious show, imaginatively told by four perfomers playing shearers, dogs and sheep explores the challenges and rewards of being an individual and will be a lasting tribute to honouring your own spirit and strength, whilst working with the flock. Their idealistic friends enjoy wild fantasies of escape and the arrival of Omar's sister brings a real chance to do so - but will the compromise be worth it? With moments of unexpected warmth, love, laughter and song, THEM is a fast-paced drama that takes audiences into extraordinary circumstances to unveil a truly relatable humanity in the ordinary moments that shape our lives. Friday, 21 May 2021Friday 21st of May, 2021, 8:00pm Some of Australia’s favourite musicians have come together to reimagine the Traveling Wilburys’ great hits and breathe new life into some of the individual artists' favourite songs. The Traveling Wilburys was a supergroup. Any band in which Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne are the ‘unknowns’ would have to be very special. George Harrison, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison are giants of popular music who completed this magical lineup. They are adored by all generations of music lovers. Now their songs have been re-imagined for Australian concert audiences. Music director Sam See has assembled a knockout band featuring James Black, Lindsay Field , Glyn Mason, Angus Burchall and Paul Cartwright. Together they create an unforgettable experience featuring sensational vocals, knockout harmonies and gargantuan guitar work as they pay tribute to the Wilburys and its superstar members. James Black, keyboardist, guitarist and music director of The RocKwiz Orkestra has played with rock royalty Mondo Rock and The Black Sorrows. Lindsay Field sings with John Farnham and has performed with Jimmy Barnes, Glenn Shorrock, Olivia Newton-John and Renee Geyer. Sam See, music director, guitarist and a founding member of Sherbet, has played with and been music director for John Farnham, Brian Cadd and Steve Vizard’s Tonight Live. Glyn Mason has sung and played with Brian Cadd, Chain, Ariel and Copperwine. Lindsay, Sam and Glyn are well known on Melbourne’s acoustic rock scene as Field, See & Mason Angus Burchall drums with John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John. Paul Cartwright on bass has played with Glenn Shorrock, David Bridie and Wendy Matthews.

Riverlinks: Livestreamed Performance: Parrwang Lifts the Sky – Live from Arts Centre Melbourne, Playhouse Theatre Friday 11 June 2021, 10.30 am Livestream a world-premiere family opera direct from Melbourne. Parrwang Lifts the Sky tells the creation story of the sunrise based on a traditional story from Wadawurrung Country. Composed by Yorta Yorta soprano and composer Deborah Cheetham AO, Parrwang Lifts the Sky is ideal for primary school students in years foundation to 6 and secondary school students to year 9. Livestream a new Australian opera direct from Arts Centre Melbourne. Parrwang Lifts the Sky tells the creation story of the sunrise based on a traditional story from Wadawurrung Country. Composed by Yorta Yorta soprano and composer Deborah Cheetham AO, the opera is ideal for primary school students in years foundation to 6 and secondary school students to year 9. Parrwang Lifts the Sky is Victorian Opera’s 2021 Education opera and offers schools attending the livestreamed performance free access to a series of interactive livestreamed workshops in the lead up to the production. Across the four workshops, students will meet the singers and composer, explore the unique artistic characteristics of opera, learn about Wadawurrung culture and discover what happens inside the rehearsal room to bring the opera to life on stage. Each workshop is easily accessed online and can be viewed in real time on the scheduled dates or on-demand. Teachers will receive access to workshops when they book tickets to attend the performance, livestreamed on Friday 11 June at 10.15am.
